From 4s (arms and legs) to 10s (fingers and toes) to 2s (feet)

I suppose a post is long over due. Here's some photos (1 not yet on Facebook) and not one but 2 video clips to make up for it!!

Like a fellow mommy says it, it’s near impossible to document the growth of our child. They grow soooo fast and the pages to the days/months speed along with it. Thus, we’ll reserve to short stories, favorite pixs and video pixs as it becomes available :o) Hmmm…sounds like I’ve typed that before…

Pix with new outfit Mommy happened to dig up from dresser.

Katie enjoying the slide at the park which she's been able to go to on a regular basis with both of our families.

Hanging out with Da Da.

In the past couple of weeks, Katie has swiftly found her walking ability starting with the stance then lifting of one foot over the next. She’s enjoying every bit of her new learned mobility dancing from one piece of furniture to the next. Her next step is to stand up on her own with no assistance. I have a feeling that’s going to set off a whole new world for the little munchkin as if she doesn’t have a solar system to herself already :o/

Katie has also developed amazing social skills…hmm…suppose we have something to do with that. We’ve been fortunate to have cousin Tyrus back in town and taking full advantage of him. Tyrus and Katie can go on a tear of the houses (which happens to be the same make, model and layout and arguably color). They follow one another around the house on all 4’s and 10’s (fingers and toes); they’ll share toys and snacks; and exchange conversations constantly. It’s the cutest thing - lots of fun to watch and film for future entertainment :o) Her time with cousin Tyrus has enhanced her courage to play with other kids in public and at parties.

She’s not shy about crawling around other people’s homes and play with their toys. At times, she has so much fun doing it, she doesn’t realize her parents are gone. We love it!

Our Little Monster

Hubby said to me the other day that my blog is getting more informational than entertaining these days. I suppose I have been lazy at putting any thought into the entries. It is way easier to detail the events as they happen especially when I have been feeling like a robot lately succumbing to our daily and weekly schedules. Not everyday is exactly the same but I’m starting to feel that my life has been taken over by this little monster and there’s way to get it back!...haha… I have to say, the little monster is the cuties thing in our lives! She’s going on 10 months and I can’t stop kissing her :o)

The cool new umbrella stroller. So much easier to handle.

The monsterly things she does at her little age…

She’s relentless at getting to the laptop. She’ll climb on our toes, legs, thighs, tummy (plenty of steps there), chest and shoulders just to get up onto the couch and bang on the keyboard or lean her entire 20lb (we think) self onto the LCD screen. Last week, she was able to poke out a key which took Daddy a little while to pop it back into place. Thanks to Katie’s cousin Claudia in SF, she inherited a bright pink toy laptop that she only plays with when someone else is playing with it. Hmm…wonder if that’s a sign of ‘mine…mine…mine…mine…’. Good thing cousin Tyrus just moved back into town this weekend (only a few blocks away) so there’ll be plenty of lessons for ‘share…share…share…share…’.

Chewing on her hair clip as it is meant to be.

In the past few weeks, Katie’s been clingy at the door. She enjoys playing with older little people and adults who she warms up to after they take her for a little walk or give her a treat or two. Once those people turn their backs on her and leaves, she’ll cry almost instantly. Last week, her cousins Nancy and Jenny came to play with her and to give Grandma a break. She hasn’t seen the cousins in quite a few weeks but had no problems warming up to them. As they were leaving and the front door closed behind them, Katie crawled after them in tears. She’s been crying after us too in the mornings and yes she wakes up at the crack of dawn! This morning, I gave her a treat to munch on and she was happy to stay in Grandma’s lap and let us go to work in peace :o) With Mommy and Daddy, it doesn’t take a door to make her cry just as soon as we turn our back is when the facet turns on and the frown hits the floor! I couldn’t help but laugh at the sight of it yesterday. She’s just being a baby and rightful so :o)

Katie’s an explorer by day. No matter where she is, she prefers to be on the ground so she can crawl for little things to put in her mouth, pull things off the shelves, a laptop to bang on, clothes to toss around, cds to take out of a basket, wires to nibble on, other kids to play with or just a book to flip through. I like the book except everything else requires cleaning on our part. Babycenter.com says that babies her age should start to move things around such as taking things apart and out as well as putting things back together and in objects/containers. Oh she got the first part down alright just need more training on the second. My Mom likes to contain Katie in her arms to prevent her from tearing her place apart. She learnt very quickly she can only hold Katie for so long and it takes her no time to squirm herself loose. My sister went out and purchased a fence to restrict Katie to an area in the living room. We’re thinking about getting the same for our house but I don’t like how she looks caged in, just like I don’t like seeing her salivate watching us eat so we all eat at the same time. With this explorer thing, I guess we’ll just have to pay less attention to the TV/computer and more attention on the little monster! When it’s quiet in the house, the little monster is busy with something and 99.9% of the time, we’re not going to like what she’s occupying herself with :o/

That hair of her's is helpless.

She’s a little kung fu panda by night. We have her sleeping on a queen size futon pad on the ground and I kid you not she seems to use every inch of that pad in her 10 hours of sleep every night. For starters, she doesn’t like to be held to sleep anymore. She uses ever muscle in her body to wriggle out of our arms and onto her bed. We’ll give her a little blanky to chew on and off she goes. She rows on and off the pillows, rubs her face into the mattress, scratches her head, rows around some more, find her way back to the pillows, and somewhere along the way, she’ll find the perfect position usually on her tummy with blanky in her mouth to settle in. She’ll stay in that position for a couple hours then she’ll be on the move again. Along the way she’ll make noises or even scream out loud that’s our nightly alarm to run down the hall half asleep and make sure she didn’t roll off her mattress or more importantly that she continues snoozing. At my parent’s house, Katie and I sleep on a twin size bed which translates to no sleep at all for me. In her sleep, she’s not shy about kicking and bunching the wall or her own mother! One morning, I woke up with a slight scratch on the side of my lip evidence of a battle scar from the night before :o/ It won’t be long when she’ll get the twin bed all to herself. Last weekend, she slept over at my parent’s house over one night all on her own next to her Auntie Annie. Have to say thank goodness for family, maybe more kids won’t be so bad…lol…I am SOOOOO kidding!!

Trying to snoop out snakes in Auntie Kim's backyard...had to step on Daddy's sleepy legs to get a better view.

Finally, we have to start admitting we have bad sides as we stare it in the face on a daily basis now. Yes, we were perfect before we became parents!! This little monster is as stubborn as they get and her neck is a stiff as an alligator. When she’s done eating, she’s done eating that is if and when she decides to eat, oh and this only applies to milk. She’ll eat everything else as soon as it creeps close enough to her grasp. When she doesn’t want to be held, she doesn’t want to be held. She’ll poke your eyes and squeeze your noses to make you put her down. When she doesn’t want to sleep, she’ll crawl towards the door each and every single time you try to lay her down. But when she is ready to nap and when she is ready to eat, it’s effortless. We have learnt to pick our battles and although she thinks she’s getting her way, it’s really our way…haha…
