Shots

I think I’ve lost count how many weeks old Katie is. Being a parent will definitely kill a few brain cells or replace it with, “…is she hungry, is she hurt, is she too hot...” It never ends.

Last Monday, we took Katie to her 2 month appointment. The checkup went very well. All of Katie’s measurements are normal and she’s a completely average baby. Then, she had her first set of vaccines, three shots (two on one thigh and one on the other thigh). It was more painful for Yogi and me to watch than actually getting the shots ourselves. Once the pain from the shots registered, she screamed as loud as we’ve ever heard her. Yogi held her immediately after and she quieted down almost instantly then fell asleep in Daddy’s arms as we walked to the car. She ran a minor fever the rest of the day but her thighs were painfully swollen. Every time she moved them, she would scream at the top of her lungs and was unable to sleep until we held them down. Poor baby… In the few nights after the shots, her schedule was back to when she first came from the hospital. She woke every 2-3 hours for attention but it’s slowly getting better. Yay!!

Lately, we noticed Katie has been napping lightly. Either she sleeps in our arms or not at all and even when she does, it’s no more than 20 minutes at a time. So, Yogi figured the other day to lay Katie out under the play mat to fiddle with her toys and release all of her energy before nap time. So far, it’s been working pretty well. She’s definitely pooped out and will nap through any noise. There’s no doubt she is growing with energy and we’ll probably have to enroll her into karate next month to keep up with her naps :o)

We continue to be out and about with her any time we get especially in this beautiful Fall weather. She’s getting uses to the carrier (usually attached to Yogi) and enjoys looking around at all the new sights and sounds outside of our house. One night we had dinner downtown with a couple of friends then took a stroll for yogurt afterwards. And yesterday, we shopped around Folsom Outlet to take advantage of the outdoors before the weather really cools down.

We’re looking forward to our first Halloween on Friday. We will be spending it with friends in the pocket area. It has crossed our mines to visit some of you on Halloween and if no treat then we’ll leave Katie’s diaper as a trick…hehe… We haven’t quite decided what Katie will be but there will definitely be pictures. HAVE A GOOD ONE!!

2 Months

Yesterday was Katie’s 2 month birthday!! Woo hoo!! We made it!

We took her to her 2 month appointment today and all measurements are normal. She’s a textbook baby growing at the speed of an average child and doing all the things she should know how to do at her stage in life.

We’re very pleased our hard work has paid off and we have a healthy little girl. Katie also got her first set of shots today. Good thing Yogi works from home today and is able to company us to the appointment. When the nurse made contact with the needles, Katie opened her mouth, took a couple breathes then bloody murder breaks loose. It’s the first time we’ve heard her scream this loud. But once in Daddy’s arms, she quiet down almost instantly and fell asleep on our way to the car. We’re hoping for a smooth recovery from the shots and no bad reactions!

Sometimes we think this parenting gig is easy (woops, am I thinking too loudly?) but really we’ve been very lucky with Katie. She’s been a complete angel moving along on the growth chart and hitting every milestone. Lately, she has been sleeping longer waking only once throughout the night for a feeding; then, she’s back to sleep till daylight. She snoozes in her own room (thanks to our handy video monitor) and once feed and changed, we leave her to fall asleep on her own.

Katie is a lot of fun at home while she’s usually sleeping when we’re out. At times, I think she’s entertaining us more so than we are her. She loves to play with smiles and baby talk in the late afternoon which was normally her most active time of day inside of me.

Katie says hi....

First Road Trip

Let’s do housekeeping with these comments I’ve been receiving. My goal is to create a new post once a week. It’ll usually be early in the week on Mondays or Tuesdays since the weekend is when all the fun happens. As for my weight, I haven’t been eating can’t you tell?! Seriously, I think the breastfeeding is really helping and fast metabolism runs in my family. I gained 40 pounds at the peak of my pregnancy. Now eight weeks after giving birth, I’m wearing my pre-prego jeans! At my postpartum appointment last week, doc confirmed I’m healthy and ready to go for another one…ya right! I’m heading back to the gym this week to work off a few more pounds and tighten up some loose ends. I intend to enjoy the fruit of my labor a little longer before going the other way on the scale…again!

Us at our friend, Carey's bday party over the weekend.

For current news, Katie is napping like a baby. We’ve been out and about almost every day so we’re starting to notice she’s seeing things further, paying more attention to people talking to her, reacting to our facial expressions and much, much more.

Katie and aunty Annie at my parents' house. They babysat her for the first time there last week and had a blast!

We took Katie on a short road trip to San Francisco over the weekend to attend a grownup party and visit family. She loves sleeping in the car (as long as it is moving) so she was knocked out during the rides. She also slept very well overnight waking at her normal times for feeding and changing then back to sleep.

Yogi, Katie and Claudia (Yogi's niece) enjoying a nice day in Golden Gate Park.

Claudia being a great older sister to Katie helping feed, change and dress her.

Claudia reading to Katie and keeping her company. Thanks Claudia! We'll be back soon.

Lost in a Maze

Today was an exceptional Fall day weather wise in the high 70’s warm enough in the sun and cool enough in the shades. We had lunch with Yogi’s brother and his little family. Afterwards we all visited the Goblin Gardens Pumpkin Patch in North Natomas. Even though, Katie was too young to enjoy any of it, she still made her presence felt leading us through the gates with free admission, making faces at the camera and sleeping like an angel as we hunted our way through the corn maze.

Our first but definitely not our last visit to the pumpkin patch.

I got my pumpkin; we can go now.

Yogi and Katie diving into the straw maze.

Aren't we scary?

The brothers and kiddies ready to give up on this stink'n maze.

I’m sure next year we’ll pay for admission and get our money’s worth doing all the kiddie activities with Katie on her own two feet.

Partying On

Since our new found freedom, we’ve been busy trafficking in and out of the house to run errands, meet with friends and family for meals, or simply to get out of the house so, pardon the seldom posts these days. We got lots to share though...

Katie and cousin Tyrus waiting for the paparazzi to finish flashing.
Katelinh is doing very well. She started to react with smiles and winches when shown a good example on our faces. You have to get up close though as her vision is still improving. She’s also sleeping longer. Hallelujah! Her longest stretch thus far is near 7 hours but averaging a 4-5 hours, a good improvement from every 2 hours. Katie has also found her voice. In earlier days, she would moan, groan and do short screams but lately, she has put them all together and started to cry with tears even. She’s still a good baby and usually not fussy until she gets hungry then we’re tuned in to her version of a mad song.

Last night, we took Katie to her first wedding. Yogi’s cousin, Thu (bride) got married at the Catta Verdera country club in Lincoln. It was a beautiful site on a golf course for a wedding and reception. Katie slept through most of the ceremony then decided to wake up finish hearing the vows. Well, I guess she was aiming to get our attention to feed her instead so we did and she went back to catching dreams of the day she walks down the aisle. She napped till the dancing started and daddy was quick to have her first dance. Enjoy pixs below...

We were the Yoshi family for the night...haha... Mo is what the bride calls Yogi's Mom in Chinese.
